jodie foster is an amazing actress. she looked SO GOOD in this movie. i love terrance howard...it's hard to be pimp. if the film's intention was to rattle some people, it does. life is not black and white. however, i'm not sure i bought the ending. the performances are definitely worth watching. it's worth watching just for jodie's clothing and her haircut. pure hotness on a stick.

I liked the ending. Not at all what I expected.
*SPOILER ALERT*
Note that the only time she kills without a gun is when she avenges the guy for Terrence (with a crowbar).
Same poetry in him handing his gun to her to commit the crime. He knows it's the only option left since she avenged his villian and he's already too in deep with her "crimes" as an accomplice.
Remember the key line in the film when he says legally he can't do anything about that guy. Comes full circle at the end, and since she's reached the place where she IS above the law, not to mention at a point of no return, the only logical resolution on the mess is her killing her villain.
Will it end her vengeance? Will she still have these tendancies to be above the law? Not resolved, but interesting questions.
I also liked what the film has to say about how easy it is to fire a gun. Almost a feeling of entitlement once you've shot someone, in the case of Jodie's character. She goes from being someone with no knowledge or interest in the right to bear arms to someone who uses their gun at every and any personally deemed worthy situation. What is right? What is wrong? Does it even matter?
Scary questions, no answers.
Grim New York movie. Probably the ugliest portrayal of the city since the 80s. In the post 911/post Disney-Times Sqaure New York, a movie like this was SO needed.
i agree that the twist made the movie very good....i myself was not sure how else the movie should end. i did find myself going along with the crowd in the theater happy that she killed the bad guy. some people cheered.
however, i was sitting next to a doctoral candidate in criminology. it definitely garnered much discussion.
